Sentence + 吧
吧 (ba) at the end of a sentence softens it. Two main uses:
1. Suggesting / inviting (≈ “let's…”): 我们走吧 (let's go). 你先说吧 (go ahead, you first).
2. Assuming and checking (≈ “…, right?”): 你是马克吧？ (you're Marc, right?). With 吗 you don't know; with 吧 you think you already know.
You'll also hear 好吧 (OK, fine).
Examples
我们走吧。
Wǒmen zǒu ba.Let's go.
我们下午去吧。
Wǒmen xiàwǔ qù ba.Let's go this afternoon.
你是王明吧？
Nǐ shì Wáng Míng ba?You're Wang Ming, right?
你累了吧？休息一下儿吧。
Nǐ lèi le ba? Xiūxi yíxiàr ba.You must be tired. Take a little rest.
Common mistakes
✗ 我们走吗？ to suggest → ✓ 我们走吧！ (吗 asks a real question: “are we leaving?”).
✗ 吧 with a question word: 你去哪儿吧？ → ✓ 你去哪儿？
