这 / 那 + (number) + MW + Noun

这 (zhè, “this”) and 那 (nà, “that”): alone, they mean “this / that”: 这是我的书. Before a noun they need a measure word: 这个人, 那本书. In speech you'll often hear zhèi and nèi.

• 这儿 / 这里 = here; 那儿 / 那里 = there.

• 这些 / 那些 = these / those: 这些书.

• 别的 = other: 你还要别的东西吗？ (anything else?)

• 有的 = some: 有的同学在休息，有的同学在看书 (some students are resting, others are reading).

Zhè shì shéi de shǒujī?
Whose phone is this?
她喜欢那个书包。
Tā xǐhuan nàge shūbāo.
She likes that schoolbag.
你坐这里，弟弟坐那里。
Nǐ zuò zhèli, dìdi zuò nàli.

Common mistakes

✗ 这些个书 → ✓ 这些书 (些 replaces the measure word).

✗ 我去这儿 sounds odd → ✓ 我来这儿 / 我在这儿.
哪 (nǎ, which?) ≠ 那 (nà, that).
