Subject + 并 + 不 / 没(有) + Verb / Adj
并 (bìng) before 不 or 没 strengthens the negation to contradict an idea the other person has (or might have): "not at all, contrary to what you think".
这个问题并不难 = this question isn't actually hard (despite what you think).
Ideal for defending your view in a discussion. Without an assumption to contradict, 并 sounds odd.
Examples
网上的消息并不都是真的。
Wǎng shang de xiāoxi bìng bù dōu shì zhēn de.Not everything online is true, you know.
我并没有说你不对，只是有不同的看法。
Wǒ bìng méiyǒu shuō nǐ bú duì, zhǐshì yǒu bùtóng de kànfǎ.I never said you were wrong: I just see it differently.
钱多并不一定幸福。
Qián duō bìng bù yídìng xìngfú.Having lots of money doesn't necessarily make you happy.
Common mistakes
✗ 我并喜欢。 → in this sense 并 only comes before a negation. ✓ 我并不喜欢。
✗ 并他不知道。 → after the subject. ✓ 他并不知道。
