(Subject) 不但 + A，而且 (Subject) (还/也) + B
不但……而且 (búdàn… érqiě) expresses escalation: B goes further than A. A more formal variant is 不仅……而且/也.
Position of 不但: same subject → subject + 不但…: 他不但会说中文，而且说得很好。 Different subjects → 不但 + subject 1…: 不但我喜欢，而且我朋友也喜欢。
The second half is often reinforced with 还 or 也.
Examples
骑自行车不但环保，而且对身体好。
Qí zìxíngchē búdàn huánbǎo, érqiě duì shēntǐ hǎo.Cycling is not only eco-friendly but also good for your health.
这个城市不但空气好，而且交通也很方便。
Zhège chéngshì búdàn kōngqì hǎo, érqiě jiāotōng yě hěn fāngbiàn.This city not only has clean air, but the transport is convenient too.
不但学生要节约用电，而且老师也要节约。
Búdàn xuésheng yào jiéyuē yòng diàn, érqiě lǎoshī yě yào jiéyuē.Not only students but teachers too should save electricity.
Common mistakes
✗ 他不但聪明，但是很努力。 → 但是 contrasts, it doesn't escalate. ✓ ……而且很努力。
✗ 不但他会唱歌，而且会跳舞。 → same subject: 不但 after the subject. ✓ 他不但会唱歌，而且会跳舞。
